India to develop, manufacture and buy PAK-FA
Indian Defence Minister A.K. Antony has said that India will buy up to 300 Sukhoi PAK-FA Fifth Generation Fighter Aircraft (FGFA) from Russia. India will also jointly develop and manufacture the aircraft.

India, Russia to discuss PAK-FA; additional Su-30s
India and Russia will hold talks this week regarding a deal to supply up to 250 PAK-FA fifth-generation fighters to the Indian Air Force. India will also seek additional Su-30MKIs, bringing the IAF's proposed Su-30 strength to 270.
India's first C-130J flies
Lockheed Martin has undertaken the first flight of the Indian Air Force's first C-130J Hercules transport. The IAF has ordered six stretched C-130J and the first aircraft is slated for delivery in December.

Half of Indian AF equipment "obsolete"
The Chief of the Air Staff of the Indian Air Force has said that the IAF needs 600 pilots and half of the equipment in its inventory are obsolete. However the trends of pilot attrition and equipment obsolescence were falling and the latter is expected to drop to 20% in five years.

Indian AF to carry out checks on MiG-27s
After three crashes this year, the Indian Air Force will carry out comprehensive checks on its fleet of MiG-27 attack aircraft. The type will also miss out on the coming Air Force Day parade.

GE's F414 selected to Power India's LCA
General Electric has announced that India has selected the F414 engine to power the Mk II version of the Tejas Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) for the Indian Air Force. India will procure 99 engines initially.

Another Indian MiG-27 crashes
A MiG-27 Flogger ground attack aircraft of the Indian Air Force has crashed in the country's east, the third crash of an IAF MiG-27 this year. The incident happened 40 kilometers (25 miles) east of the Kalaikunda air base in West Bengal with the pilot successfully ejecting.

The Indian Air Force has concluded its training course in Malaysia for the Royal Malaysian Air Force's Su-30 crew. A 53-man team of air and ground crew have been in Malaysia since 2008

Indian Air Force Chetaks involved in 2 incidents; 3 killed
Two Indian Air Force Chetak helicopters have been involved in two separate incidents in the last 24 hours: Three IAF crew were killed in a crash in a remote part of Jharkhand while elsewhere in India on Saturday another helicopter made an emergency landing at an airport in Nagpur.

Indian Air Force to buy 59 more Mi-17s
Aiming to strengthen its transport fleet, the Indian air Force is to buy 59 more Mi-17 Hips transport helicopters from Russia. This is in addition to the 80 ordered in 2008.

Indian air force poised for basic trainer fly-off
The Indian air force expects to kick off flight evaluations with the candidates for its replacement basic trainer requirement later this month. The Indian Air Force has a 75-aircraft requirement to replace the Hindustan HPT-32 Deepak.

Indian officials get a look at PAK-FA
Russia has conducted a flight demonstration with its prototype PAK FA fighter for a delegation of Indian defence ministry and industry officials. The event was held at Ramenskoye, near Moscow on 31 August.

India requests Harpoon II for Jaguars
India has made an official request to the United States to purchase 24 AGM-84L Harpoon Block 2 anti-shipping missiles. The missiles are to equip the Indian Air Force's Jaguar strike aircraft.

India seeks Il-76 AEW improvements; seeking more aircraft
India has reportedly asked Israel for additional improvements to the third Ilyushin Il-76 Phalcon AEW that the Indian Air Force has ordered. They are also seeking additional AEW aircraft, either more Il-76s or Gulfstream G550s.

Indian AF expects air-launched Brahmos entry into service by 2013
India has announced that the air-launched version of its Brahmos supersonic cruise missile will be flight tested in 2012, with 2013 as its expected entry-into-service date. As expected, the chosen launch platform is the Sukhoi Su-30MKI Flanker.
