Boeing is still warily confident of the F-15SE Silent Eagle being selected in South Korea when the expected announcement is made in 2-3 weeks. This wariness is despite reports that both the F-35 and Typhoon have already been eliminated.

The last Australian F-111 designated as a museum piece has left RAAF Amberley on it's way to the Pacific Aviation Museum in Honolulu, Hawaii on board an RAAF C-17.

After a delivery flight interrupted by a lightning strike on one of the aircraft, the last three Gripens Thailand has on order have arrived at Surat Thani, home to the RTAF's Wing 7.

Royal Thai Air Force Gripen (Gripen International/Saab Photo)

Despite recent crashes in South Korea, the Philippines is still keen on the KAI F/A-50 light combat jet to give it some badly needed combat capability.

The last three Thai Saab Gripen fighters should arrive in Thailand this afternoon after they were forced to extend their stay at Port Blair in the Andaman Islands after one was hit by lightning on its way to Surat Thani yesterday. This brings deliveries of the Gripen to the Royal Thai Air Force to 12, completing the Thai order.

Royal Thai AF F-16As in 100th Anniversary special scheme

To mark 100 years of military aviation in Thailand, the Royal Thai Air Force (RTAF) has painted two of it's F-16A Fighting Falcons in a special scheme to mark the occasion. The aircraft (10311 and 10324), both from 103 Sqn based at RTAFB Korat, are now in the dazzling scheme, named "Century Falcon" that you see in the photos above.

An interesting note on the scheme is that there is a Nieuport painted on the underside of the F-16s. The backstory is that on 28 February 1912 the Thai Government dispatched three officers to learn to fly in France, thus marking the birth of Thai military aviation. The three officers (Major Luang Sakdi Sanlayawut (Sunee Suwanprateep), Captain Luang Arwut Sikikorn (Long Sinsuk) and First Lieutenant Tip Ketuthat learned to fly and on 2 November 1913 returned to Thailand with eight aircraft (four Breguets and four Nieuports). They are today regarded as the forefathers of the Royal Thai Air Force.

VIDEOS: Exercise Cope Tiger 2012

Exercise Cope Tiger is a trilateral air exercise between the air forces of Thailand, Singapore and the United States held annually in the Kingdom of Thailand. 2012 marked the 18th occasion this exercise has been held, and the exercise enables the three nations' air forces to train how to better respond to a full spectrum of crises, from humanitarian and disaster response, to potential regional security threats.

There are also a couple of videos on Youtube (not by me unfortunately) of the RTAF's Gripens, a mass take off and aircraft recovery at Royal Thai Air Force Base Korat.

The RTAF currently operates 36 L-39ZA/ARTs with two squadrons and 19 (out of an original 25) Alpha Jet As with one squadron.
