Shaw Air Force Base F-16s deploy to South Korea

Approximately 240 personnel and 12 F-16 Fighting Falcon aircraft deployed from South Carolina's Shaw Air Force Base to Kunsan Air Base in the Republic of Korea (ROK) for a scheduled three-month deployment beginning Jan. 15.

The 20th Fighter Wing's 55th Fighter Squadron, activated as the 55th Expeditionary Fighter Squadron, departed Jan. 10 and will work alongside South Korean and other in-country American forces.

About 200 Airmen and 12 more F-16Cs from Hill Air Force Base, Utah, are currently deployed to Kunsan as the 421st Expeditionary Fighter Squadron. Their scheduled deployment began Dec. 3, 2011, and is also scheduled to last approximately three months.
