Greek F-16s escort jetliner after bomb hoax

A bomb threat which later turned out to be a hoax prompted the Hellenic Air Force to scramble a pair of F-16s to intercept a Thomsonfly Boeing 757 and escort it to Athens for a safe landing. The jetliner was on a flight from Bristol bound for the Egyptian resort of Sharm el-Sheikh.

Greek jets intercept Turkish jets over Aegean

The Turkish military has said that Greek Mirage 2000 and F-16s have intercepted Turkish F-16s which were on training flight over the Aegean Sea. It detailed three encounters between the two air forces, which has previously escalated into casualties on both sides in the past.

Pratt and Whitney wins Greek engine deal

US aircraft engine manufacturer Pratt & Whitney has announced it has won a $33.9 million contract to provide the Greek air force with spare engines for its F-16 fleet. P&W's F100 engines have been used in the Greek F-16 fleet since 2002.

Second Greek AF pilot dies

The Hellenic Air Force pilot critically injured in last week's mid-air collision between two F-16s has died despite having already undergone three previous operations after the accident. One other pilot died instantly following the collision.

Greek F-16s collide; 2 pilots rescued

A pair of Hellenic Air Force F-16s have collided south of Crete. So far two pilots have been picked up, with one badly hurt. The aircraft involved were reported a F-16C and a F-16D.

UPDATE (27 Aug 2010 10:00): It has been confirmed that the third pilot is deceased. Both surviving pilots are injured, with one sustaining a punctured lung.
