Japanese press are reporting that a U.S. Marine AH-1W Cobra helicopter gunship has been involved in a landing accident on board the Landing Platform Dock USS Denver (LPD-9) at White Beach, Okinawa. According to the Okinawa Times, the aircraft damaged its skids upon landing but fortunately settled upright on the deck of the LPD. The above photo shows the damaged helicopter in the background. The Marines have not issued a statement about the incident, and it is not known if there are any injuries.
NOTE: The aircraft would be an AH-1W from HMLA-469, a detachment which is currently rotation to Okinawa as part of the Unit Deployment Program (UDP)
