Kadena's Fighting Cocks takes USAF best fighter squadron gong

On Feb. 16, United States Air Force Chief of Staff General Norton Schwartz announced that Kadena's 67th Fighter Squadron has earned the Raytheon Trophy for 2011. The annual award is given to the top air superiority or air defense squadron in the USAF. The 67th FS is one of two F-15 Eagle squadrons in the Asian-Western Pacific area of operations, conducting air superiority missions from their Okinawa base.

Activated in 1941, the Fighting Cocks have fought in the skies over Guadalcanal, New Guinea, Korea and Vietnam flying aircraft such as the P-39/400 Airacobra, P-51 Mustang, F-105 Thunderchief and F-4 Phantom II.
