China's CATIC hopes to sell 300 JF-17 fighters in the next decade

China's military aircraft export agency, China National Aero-Technology Import & Export Corporation or CATIC has said that it hopes to sell up to 300 Chengdu/Pakistan Aeronautical Complex (PAC) JF-17 Thunder fighters in Africa and the Middle East over the next five years. So far, only Pakistan has ordered the JF-17, with firm orders for 150 examples.

Pakistani JF-17 squadron operational, more orders forthcoming

The Pakistani air force has taken delivery of about half of the 42 JF-17 Thunder fighters it has on order, with one squadron having been declared operational. The Pakistani government hopes to order a second batch of 50 fighters next year.

Continuing the partnership between the Chinese and Pakistani militaries, Pakistan has announced that it will equip its JF-17 Thunder fighters with Chinese SD-10 radar-guided BVR AAM. The Pakistan Air Force will eventually have 250 of the fighter, a joint development by China and Pakistan

China in talks with potential JF-17 customers

China is in discussions about selling the FC-1/JF-17 Thunder fighter to up to eight countries. The third-generation, single-engine fighter, jointly developed by Pakistan and China, is being pitched as a replacement for older fighters such as the MiG-21 and F-5

Rosoboronexport to compete in US helicopter tender for Afghanistan

Russia's state-run arms exporter Rosoboronexport will compete in a helicopter tender for 21 Mi-171 Hip transport helicopters and equipment. The US government issued an RFP in July for the helicopters, to be used in the Afghan theater of operations.

The Russian exporter is also preparing a contract for the delivery of additional RD-93 jet engines to China. The RD-93 is a development of the RD-33 developed by Russia's Klimov design bureau for China's FC-1 Fierce Dragon fighter, known in Pakistan as the JF-17 Thunder.
