RAAF Wedgetail AEW
United States and Japanese aerial combat units are currently in Guam for Exercise Cope North 2012, which runs from Feb. 11 through 24. During the exercise, participating forces will demonstrate the ability to effectively deploy forces and train together to improve aircrew abilities to employ tactical air power as a multinational force.
For the first time, the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) is joining in the exercise. Six RAAF F/A-18F Super Hornets and a Wedgetail Airborne Early Warning aircraft are representing Australia in the bi-annual exercise historically for the United States Air Force (USAF) and the Japanese Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF) that started in 1978.
