Word on the internet, and subsequently picked up by a number of Chinese web news portals the past couple of days, has been that the former Ukrainian carrier Varyag will be named Liaoning when inducted into the Chinese Navy in the near future. Nothing official as yet, so everyone might yet end up with egg on their face regarding this one.
The port of Dalian, where the Varyag was being refurbished and modernized, is of course, in the Chinese province of Liaoning. So in case you were wondering about the reason behind the name....
